365: Earth Day

April 22 is Earth Day. The first Earth Day was celebrated in the United States in 1970. Twenty years later, it was recognized worldwide. I hope to raise Jude to respect Mother Earth. We spent the day doing a few things to help!
We started by going to admire and respect the Earth by walking around in it! We went up to Burger Farm and Garden Center pick up plants (and shop locally!). I worked at Burger Farms when I was in high school, and it was nice to visit it again with Jude to enjoy the beautiful flowers.
We picked out a few flowers and pots to plant some flowers. Flowers help improve air quality and can help insects thrive. Jude and I chose Antirrhinums (Snapdragons) and Melampodium Lemon Delights. Q and Katie got Mattihola Vintage Mixes.
The babies helped plant by scooping dirt into the pots. They also helped place water bottles down in the bottoms of the pots before we planted. This helps improve drainage and helped recycle a few water bottles too!
After we finished planting, Katie and I carefully cut holes in the bottom of empty water bottle and used them as the perfect upcycled kid friendly watering can. The babies loved watching the water fall down and it fit perfectly in their little hands.
I will be encouraging Jude (and myself) to treat every day like it's Earth Day. Every little bit helps!
