Jude and I celebrated by cooking dinner together. We went simple: eggs, hash browns, and grits. I decided to jump in head first and let Jude help with all aspects of the dinner creation, including cracking eggs. I modeled how to crack an egg a couple of times. We then did it together. Then I let him try on his own. It was magical to watch his eyes widen when he cracked the shell for the first time. Quite a few pieces of shell got in the bowl, but it was worth digging them out!
Jude also played a large role in making the grits. He dumped the tablespoon into the bowl. He even tried to measure some out himself. Getting help from Jude with food preparation is hard for me because I am awfully type A, but I never regret taking the time to do activities with him. Even if it does slow us down or make a bigger mess, it is always worth it!
